Miracles Do Happen

My dad is an international preacher known for having miracles happen at his events. So growing up there was never a question as to whether miracles can happen. It was always just a fact that they do.

Like most people, as I got older I began to question the beliefs that I had been taught; however, I never doubted that miracles existed.

When I was a kid, a good family friend got really sick. I remember one night my dad getting a phone call saying his friend was in the hospital and the doctors only gave him a couple more days to live, at best. The next thing I knew, my brother and I were at my grandmother’s house while my dad and mom were at the hospital praying for a miracle. A miracle did happen that night; our family friend lived another 15 years before recently passing. This is just one example of a miracle I’ve seen happen. I could write a novel on the things I’ve seen. The blind being able to see, the deaf being able to hear, the crippled being able to walk. I’ve seen it all.

That brings me to the next question, if miracles exist why doesn’t everyone get healed?

Almost everyone has experienced a tragic death of a loved one. Whether it was your dad, mom, grandparent or friend who has died before their time,  possibly from an awful disease. You might have prayed for that miracle, day in and day out. Hoping God would do the impossible and heal your loved one. Then they die, and you wonder why God didn’t hear your prayers. Was I not praying well enough? Does God not love me as much? Does God even exist? All these questions are extremely valid when you are told miracles happen, yet they don’t happen for you.

To be honest, I can’t give you an answer because I’m not God. I can only tell you what I believe, and that is God doesn’t see living on earth as the only way to live. To God, earth isn’t home, heaven is. So to me people dying might be a tragedy to us, but to God they are just coming home. I know that seems selfish as you sit there wishing your loved one was right next to you, but in my opinion God  understands that you’ll be with them again all in good time.

My dad preaches on the idea that healing comes from the heart.  Realizing you are loved by God and healing has already been given to you.  Most people don’t truly believe that however. We allow fear and shame to take the place of love in our hearts. We don’t believe we are good enough to be healed and that if maybe we all pray and fast long enough then maybe, just maybe, God will allow us to be healed. According to my dad, this is why miracles don’t happen, because we don’t allow God’s love to take control of our hearts. We aren’t willing to accept God’s love because we don’t love ourselves.

I can’t say what is true or what you should believe. I don’t have all the answers; heck, no one does. All I know is what I’ve seen and I have seen miracles happen. The impossible is possible for God.  So next time you need a miracle just realize that God has already given you that miracle, all you need to do is accept that you are loved.
