“My favorite movie for Halloween, right up there with the “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown,” would have to be “Hocus Pocus.”  Every year I have to watch it at least once.  That movie is my childhood Halloween dreams wrapped up in a neat little package.  I remember just waiting for it to come on when it was first released and watching the witches with big eyes and munching candy corn. My family and I gather around the TV whenever it happens to be on ABC Family to just sit and watch it eagerly. We even sing along to the song when it pops up.  Can’t go wrong with this movie.” – Staff Writer Katherine Ramos

“The thrill of a good scare is exactly what I crave come Halloween night. When all the little ghosts and witches go to sleep, it’s the shiver-inducing moments, and the nagging feeling that someone is watching you that completes the spookiest night of the year. ‘Sinister,’ the 2012 movie starring Ethan Hawke, delivers much shock factor by way of 8 mm or ‘super 8’ camera footage (gory home movies). Ethan Hawke in particular, gives a captivating performance of a man slowly being consumed by the terrifying phenomena in his new home. The film does a fantastic job of instilling dread into the audience, while still keeping viewers on the edge of their seats – the perfect combination for Halloween night.” – Staff Writer Liezel Herradura

“A series I tend to watch with my friends every Halloween season is the anime series ‘Ghost Hunt.’ I have been a fan for some time of paranormal investigational show like ‘Ghost Adventures’ and ‘Haunted Collector,’ but this 2006 series takes the same concept with a number of twists.  While there are no camera crews, the audience follows student Mai Taniyama as she works with Naru of the Shibuya Psychic Research Center.  The two and their team of spiritual experts solve cases involving the dark and mysterious.  The show had a good run of 25 episodes and definitely sent some chills down my spine.” – Art and Entertainment Editor Faith Orcino
