PARKING FEES TO INCREASE NEXT SEMESTER

OWEN HEMSATH
PRIDE STAFF WRITER

Effective next fall, parking fees will increase for California State University San Marcos students. The price hike comes as the third phase of a three-phase plan that began in a series of forums and meetings in 2002. Parking and Commuter Services at CSUSM offers a number of options for students and visitors to arrive on campus but does not receive financial support from governmental authorities. As such, the costs of operation including ticketing services, maintenance and construction, which pays for the revenues, received from parking permit users, the web site reports.

The new fee schedule will increase parking in the X,Y,Z lots from $163 to $254 and motorcycle parking will increase from $50 to $70 while the semester pass for general parking will remain unchanged at $338.

According to csusm.edu, the fee increase is “necessary to allow for current parking needs” although the website did not provide any additional information as to the details of those needs. Students interested in more information that is detailed may contact parking services at 760- 750-7500 or email parking services at [email protected].
