New meal plan finally an option for students

By Juliana Stumpp

For the first time since the campus opened in 1992, CSUSM students can purchase a university meal plan this fall.

The CSUSM meal plan was created over the summer when the Big Cat Food Court and Starbucks partnered with Sodexco. Also, higher-quality food items have been added on-campus, including fresh sushi daily in the Bistro and new snacks at the Market.

The CSUSM meal plan has three options that together spell C-A-T. The C Plan includes $150 cougar dollars redeemable at the Big Cat Market and Big Cat Bistro. It includes 10 free Starbucks coffees or iced teas. The A Plan offers $400 cougar dollars along with 30 free drinks at Starbucks. The T Plan offers $1,000 cougar dollars with a maximum of 50 free Starbucks drinks.

More dining options and food vendors are expected to arrive on campus with the opening of the Student Union building, slated for January 2014.

For more information about the new meal plans and how to apply for one, visit the Big Cat Food Court located in The Dome.
