All-inclusive initiative to define student life on campus
Tukwut Life to give memories to last a lifetime
September 29, 2015
A fresh, community-supported initiative has come to life at CSUSM and is providing students with an opportunity to strengthen and enhance their college experience.
Tukwut Life, the Cal State San Marcos student life experience, is a new campus-wide initiative that aims to increase the amount of night and weekend events available for students, enhance CSUSM pride and traditions, build community and provide one resource where students can go for all student related events.
For several years the need for a distinctive student life program has been prominent in the eyes of student affairs staff members. After months of working towards redefining the idea of student life, pride and traditions on CSUSM’s campus, the Tukwut Life committee says that they are prepared and excited to launch what they think will be one of the most important and beneficial initiatives at Cal State San Marcos.
“The purpose of Tukwut Life is [to] create an all-encompassing student engagement where students can come together and see, hear, taste and touch student life on our campus,” said Hunter Chanove, Marketing and Promotions Assistant for Tukwut Life. “We have a wide variety of events such as Casino Nights, Lip Sync Competitions, Drag Shows and Dances so there is [a] diverse selection for students to choose!”
These events will take place primarily on nights and weekends, with a Signature Tukwut Life event taking place every Friday. Staff members want to make sure that these events are accessible to as many student as possible.
The efforts of Tukwut Life are also supported by many departments on campus including Associated Students, Inc. (ASI), CSUSM Alumni Association, CSUSM Athletics, Campus Recreation, University Student Union, Student Life & Leadership, Office of Communications, Housing & Residential Education and the Dean of Students Office.
The support of these departments will allow for an increase in student aimed events throughout the semester, and the interconnectivity of campus entities provides easy access to information and resources for all students.
“[Tukwut Life] allows students to become active members of a really amazing community and that is one of our most important goals,” said Jasmine Demers, Managing Editor at The Cougar Chronicle and Marketing and Promotions Assistant for Tukwut Life.
Along with more events for students, Tukwut Life aims to promote campus pride and tradition, provide a convenient place for event information and build a strong campus community.
“Tukwut Life is growing and looks forward to becoming a hardened tradition on this campus, I want students to feel excited and pumped once they see that Tuwkut Life logo. I want to hear, “Oh this is a Tukwut Life event?! I have to be there!”” said Chanove.
