At noon on February 29, the library unveiled The Makery, CSUSM’s brand-new makerspace on the library’s second floor. The library wants The Makery to be a place where “members of the CSUSM community can gather, create, invent, tinker, explore, discover and learn new skills using a variety of tools and materials.” The unveiling had various activities, including a collaborative banner and button- and bookmark-making stations.
Ryan Dorsett, one of The Makery’s staff members, said he was thankful “to work alongside [his] colleagues and build something from the ground up.” He is thrilled that students now have access to new resources and equipment, such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and sewing machines. “I am excited to see what students make and how they use the space. I am looking forward to the future of it.”
Also included in The Makery is Gina’s Room, a game room complete with board games and lockers for students.
The Makery will have a grand opening event from 12pm-1pm on April 23, complete with a ribbon cutting.
