Hannah Hawker, our Philanthropy chair, recently hosted an Autism Awareness Event during U-Hour here at CSUSM. During U-hour, Alpha Xi Delta passed out blue lollipops with facts about autism attached to them to educate the public about how prevalent it is becoming. It has been recently announced that, “1 in 68 children are being diagnosed as having an autism spectrum disorder” (Autism Speaks). It is important that the public is educated about this disorder because of how often children are now being diagnosed.
April 2 was World Autism Awareness day. During this day, we encouraged everyone to wear blue, as well as to “Light it Up” blue during the entire month of April. This means that an individual can purchase a blue light from Lowes or Home Depot and replace their front porch light with the blue light to spread autism awareness.
