Tragedy struck back in November 2013 when Paul Walker, a beloved actor who was one of the stars of The Fast & Furious franchise, died suddenly in a car crash. Walker was in the midst of filming the latest installment, “Furious 7”, at the time of his death.
With rewriting and the help of CGI and Walker’s two brothers, “Furious 7” continued filming. On April 3, the world was able to see Walker’s last film and remember the actor who made “Fast & Furious” so great.
“Furious 7” starts where the previous film left off, with Shaw’s brother, Deckard (Jason Statham), seeking to avenge Shaw, who was left in a near death after the events of the last film, “Furious 6.” Deckard begins with the death of Han (Sung Kang), tying in the “Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift” film. Upon discovering Han’s death, Dom (Vin Diesel) wants vengeance, but he can’t achieve it on his own because Deckard is like a ghost who can show up at any time.
Dom finds the assistance he needs when the leader of a covert ops team, Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell), enlists Dom and his team to retrieve a hacker named Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel) in order to obtain the God’s eye, a machine that is able to track anybody anywhere in the world. Dom, Brian (Walker), Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Roman (Tyrese Gibson), and Tej (Ludacris) devise a plan that involves planes, impossible locations and of course fast cars.
The missions don’t end there; the film is composed of mission after mission that drives this action packed film into greatness. While most films with an overwhelming amount of action usually lack a good plot, “Furious 7” perfects the action film with their plot driven technique moving from one mission to the next.
The best part of “Furious 7” was how it paid tribute to Paul Walker and served as an endearing farewell. If you are a true fan of “Fast & Furious”, then you will know the biggest aspect of this series is the bromance between Brian and Dom. Sadly, because of Walker’s death, “Furious 7” was not able to have many scenes with them together. Because of this, the film lacked the original chemistry that made “Fast & Furious” so superb. That being said, the last scene made up for it. Without giving away too much, the ending is the perfect way to say goodbye to the late Paul Walker. Make sure you bring tissues to this one.
