Trump has no place in politics

Celebrity business magnate, Donald Trump, currently leads in the race to win the Republican nomination. Given the state of U.S. politics, this isn’t much of a surprise.

Voters are sick of the gridlock in Washington, and many have come to distrust career politicians.

Trump represents a break with political tradition. He’s a billionaire with no experience holding public office. Republican voters seem to like him because he doesn’t play politics; Trump says what he thinks and could care less about political correctness.

That being said, Trump has no place in the political arena. His public conduct has been unprofessional, and he is an unbecoming presidential nominee. His political campaign seems to be just another way for him to stay relevant.

Trump’s comments range from the bizarre to the outrageous. In June, when he announced his presidential campaign, he said of Mexico, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best… They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.” Whether this comment was made out of arrogance or ignorance, it is a misrepresentation of facts and it makes for unacceptable rhetoric from a person seeking public office.

Then, in early September, Trump insulted candidate Carly Fiorina when he said, “Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?”

This wasn’t the first time he’d gotten in trouble for making disparaging remarks about women. Just a few weeks before, in retaliation to questions he was asked during one of the first Republican debates, Trump lambasted Fox host Megyn Kelly saying, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever.”

Insulting women’s looks and making references to menstruation is no way to win public office.

Trump says he wants to make America great again. I’m not sure what that means, but I’m sure America will be better off if he ceases his presidential campaign.
