Cougars suffer tough loss against an undefeated Biola

The Cougars women’s soccer team fell 2-0 on the road Saturday night against undefeated Biola at Al Barbour Field in La Mirada.

The Cougars bucked off 19 shots with two on goal compared to Biola’s 12 and four on goal but couldn’t manage to score in the loss to the PacWest Eagles for this out of conference game.

Midfielder Lauren Perry had three shots and one on goal, defender Karly Dunning also added a shot on goal but both were unable to come up with a score as the Cougars suffered their second shutout of the season. Goalie, Baily Cockrill recorded two saves.

The Cougars had nine fouls with seven in the first period compared to four fouls committed by Biola. Senior forward, Kayla Anderson had six shots and received a yellow card at 83:29. Sophomore Caitlin Gharibeh also contributed four shots for the Cougars.

Forwards Samantha Verduzco and Annmarie Alvarez each recorded a goal, goalie Christina Rodriguez recorded two saves for Biola’s win against the Cougars

The Cougars (2-2) overall, start California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference play next week against undefeated Stanislaus State at home.

The Cougars have a (.500) win percentage and play the next two games at home in “The Cage” and have a chance for an upset to improve their record to 4-2. The game against Stanislaus State is Friday Sept. 15 at 12:30 pm and Sunday Sept. 17 against Chico State (3-1) at 11:30 am. Chico State is currently tied for fourth place in the division and is coming off a three game win streak.
