Tap Yes On Tapioca Express
October 12, 2017
Upon moving into the CSUSM dorms, I looked up all the places to eat that were within walking distance. Being the first day of move-in, my fridge was empty and I needed to eat dinner. I saw a sushi bar and grill was just one mile away from the Quad so I grabbed my skateboard and started my mile trek to the restaurant.
I was surprised to find two restaurants built into the side of the Quad. Debating between dinner and a snack, I decided to go to Tapioca Express. The variety of drinks as well as food caught me by surprise as I only expected Boba drinks to be sold there. I purchased their medium spiced calamari and a caramel snow bubble with Boba. The food was delicious and did not disappoint.
Tapioca Express is a Taiwanese-American fast food franchise chain specializing in bubble tea, a variety of juices and slushes as well as small meals and snacks. Tap-Ex, for short, allows customers to customize their foods with a spice chart ranging from 0 (no spice) to 5 (2X extra spicy) as well as five dipping sauces. Tapioca Express also sells coffee and waffles for a late breakfast.
A classic deal for hungry students is the Cougar Combo. For $5.99, and proof of ID, you receive a regular Milk Tea Boba and their crispy chicken. For those who are looking for something more, Tapioca Express offers the Tap-Ex Meal. Just the cost of a regular snack (price varies) and $3.00, you receive a snack of your choice paired with a side of fried green beans and two scoops of white rice.
With in-store and outside seating, it is a perfect place to crank out your college papers or just to hang out in general. Free wifi is available, just ask the cashier.
Tapioca Express is located on 20 E Barham Dr built into the west side of the student resident housing building, the QUAD. They’re open Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Friday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
