#14-ranked CSU San Marcos women’s soccer carried the momentum from its last game (a tie with #12 Vanguard) to Prescott, Arizona on Friday, winning 4-0 over Oklahoma Christian.
CSUSM improves to 2-0-1 this season. Oklahoma Christian drops to 1-2.
The Cougars controlled play throughout, outshooting OKC 23-8. Cougar keepers Kaycee Gunion and Rebecca Delaney combined for the shutout, making one save each.
CSUSM got on the board in the in the 35th minute, with Lauren Johnson recording her first goal of the season off a pass from Kaleigh Dodson. Just two minute later, Dodson once again set up a teammate, this time explosive freshman Rachel Schulte, who ran onto a ball over the top of the defense and finished.
It was more of the same in the second half, as Schulte scored again, this time on a breakaway in the 54th minute. Natalya Erbel closed out the scoring, driving home a pass from Kelsey Gunion in the 87th minute.
“The team played with good commitment today,” commented Head Coach Ron Pulvers. “Right now it’s all about developing consistency.”
CSUSM will finish off play in Arizona tomorrow when they take on Judson University.
