Cougar men’s soccer recorded its second straight win on Friday, defeating Oklahoma Christian 2-1 on day one of two in Prescott, Arizona.
CSUSM is now 2-1 on the young season. Oklahoma Christina falls to 0-3.
The Cougars controlled the vast majority of the game, but left the door open for Oklahoma Christian to make a run at the end and give a bit of a scare. For Head Coach Ron Pulvers, it was still an overall positive effort – the second straight after Wednesday’s win over Pomona Pitzer.
““The team continued to play with good spirit and fight,” commented Pulvers.
CSUSM got on the board first, as a ball from Panos Kotselas resulted in a handball in the box in the 21st minute. Jordan Shadeed finished the penalty kick for the Cougars.
But a dicey penalty was called on CSUSM in the box just a minute and a half later, resulting in the equalizer on a penalty by Neal Hilton.
The Cougars would strike right back, however, as Casey Wootan ran onto a loose ball and touched it into the box, finding Warren Ashcroft who finished the opportunity for his first goal as a Cougar.
CSUSM survived the late push from Oklahoma Christian to close out the 2-1. The Cougars will be in action tomorrow at Prescott when they face off against a good Mid-America Nazarene team.
