On Thursday, April 5, CSUSM’s Global Education Center hosted the 10th annual International Fair.
Hundreds of students, staff and locals of San Marcos joined in on the festivities of the three-hour event in Kellogg Library Plaza.
“I thought it was great. I really enjoyed it. It shows how diverse our campus is,” ASI Board Member, Kenneth La- Londe said.
There were many booths set up, ranging from student organizations to religious clubs to Greek life to representations of various countries. Some of the “country” booths offered to write your name in their native language. The Saudi Arabia booth offered Henna tattoos to any who wanted them. They also played a game called Shad Alhabi, which could be related to our native game of tug-of -war.
“It’s always good to see the different cultures that you don’t see every day,” student Valerie Zambrano said.
There were performances from the Tam Tam Mandque, an African bongo drum group, as well as an international fashion show, belly dancers, Bollywood dancers, the CSUSM Improv group and many more. In between performances, CSUSM College Radio played international music.
Many of the booths offered food for the students to enjoy and thus experience the tastes of different ethnic foods, including German Bratwursts, provided by the Global Educations center.
“I think it went really well. The food was amazing. I’ve been here all day and it makes me feel more involved in the student body,” sophomore Eva Hinton said.
