The how-to guide for Tinder

By Caitlyn Thibodeau

Staff Writer

As our generation becomes more and more reliant on technology, it is completely understandable that dating would transition into online dating sites like Tinder.

This Tinder application links to your Facebook and uses your likes and dislikes to pair you up with possible matches in your area. Users can even refine their search based on gender, age and distance. After you’ve been “matched up” it becomes yes or no game based on physical appearance. As shallow as this sounds, physical attraction has been proven to be an important factor when determining a healthy relationship.

I decided to try it both for amusement and to find out more about the site. After checking it out for a couple of weeks, I’ve compiled a list of do’s and don’ts for men attempting to meet women on this app. Obviously I am only one person and my tips might not work in every case, but take from them what you will.

So guys, let’s cut to the chase because I’m doing this to help you find the type of girl you’re looking for on this app. First, if you’re just looking to “hook up,” let the girls know. I passed multiple profiles with guys who have about me’s that said, “just looking to hook-up.” Girls are going to appreciate guys that are willing to call it like it is. Plus you’ll know that you’re already on the same page with whatever girl you decide to talk to because you were completely upfront.

Second, if your profile picture is not of your face I am not going to go through your pictures to see what you look like. There are just too many people on this app. Also, don’t have your profile picture be of you doing something where we can’t see your face, even if you’re surfing, playing a sport or doing something else that’s super cool. If I’m interested, I’m still going to through your pictures to make sure that I find you attractive and use that as my deciding factor.

Don’t have your profile picture be a picture with you and a bunch of your friends. If every photo you post is of you and a ton of friends, I’m probably going to skip over you. Taking the time to figure out which one is you is not worth the effort.

Finally, and this is probably more of a personal preference and can go for both girls and guys, put your height please. Height is a physical attribute that can either increase or decrease your attractiveness in my book and I can’t be the only one. Some girls like tall guys, some girls like short guys, some guys like tall girls and so on. Being upfront about it could actually help your case.
Hopefully this can help some of you guys out, and maybe some girls looking into the app as well. My advice is just to be honest and open, because frankly the other person is going to find out eventually anyways so just lay it out on the table and see how that works for you. Good luck and hopefully you find the person you’re looking for.
