Culinary Corner: Fluffy white frosting

by Chelsey Schweitzer

When making cake, a yummy frosting recipe can come in handy. This fast and easy frosting is a

family recipe that can easily be made using ordinary utensils found in the kitchen.

The frosting should be stored in the fridge since it has perishable ingredients. This may cause the

texture to change slightly, but don’t worry, the taste will remain the same. For a slightly less fatty

frosting, you can use butter instead of shortening.

No matter which way you prefer to make it, this frosting recipe will serve as a delicious addition

to any cake.

Ingredients:

4 tablespoons flour

pinch of salt

1 cup milk

1 cup sugar

1 cup shortening (or butter if desired)

2 teaspoons vanilla

Directions:

Cook flour, salt and milk in a saucepan over low heat until a paste forms; stir constantly. Let it

cool.

Beat sugar, shortening/butter and vanilla in a mixer until a fluffy texture is formed. Add cooled

paste mixture and continue to beat until it becomes fluffy once again.

Spread frosting on cake as desired.
