Although more than half of this year gone by, it has already been a year for great music with new artists emerging, old bands getting back together, and artists collaborating on new projects. But one artist stood out from the crowd is Halsey.

This LA based artist has worked in the music industry since she was sixteen, headlining for bands such as The Kooks and then recording her own music on YouTube. She released her first EP “Room 93.” Although Halsey is only recently gaining recognition on the radio waves, she was named “the most talked about person online in 2015” according to the South by Southwest music conferences earlier this year.

The American singer and songwriter just now released her first full album entitled “Badlands.” The album covered a broad range of tracks from emotional yet upbeat tracks such as “Ghost” and anthems like “New Americana,” resulting in a very moving debut for the young artist. Not afraid to address issues in her own personal life with songs like “Control,” Halsey’s lyrics get pretty dark while also managing to be catchy at the same time. Her sound ranges from indie rock to electropop, but relatable lyrics help her appeal to a wide audience.
Halsey was also known for more than just her music. An avid supporter of LGBTQA rights, the young artist recently blew up on social media lately by speaking out against bisexual erasure in the media. In addition, aware of her ever-growing fanbase of young women, Halsey also advocated for body acceptance and love. At just twenty years old, Halsey is both a powerful vocalist and conscious role model. Halsey expressed her beliefs in her lyrics, singing “don’t belong to no city, don’t belong to no man.” Halsey’s “Badlands” is for all those who are fans of artists like Lana Del Rey, Lorde, and Alanis Morissette. The heavy vocals and edgy sound will make it the perfect album to listen to on repeat this fall season.
