May 15, 2017
The Office of Global Education hosted its 15th annual international fair between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 13 in front of the Library Plaza.
International and exchange students showcased food, clothes and other cultural artifacts from their home countries, to give peers a greater understanding of the different cultures on campus.
“We love the International Fair because it celebrates our cultural diversity here on campus and spotlights our international and exchange student population, and the wonderful cultures you bring to CSUSM,” said Associate Director, Global Education, International Student Advisor, Danielle McMartin.
As of fall 2016 CSUSM has about 390 international and exchange students
“The fair is to represent the diversity on our campus and it’s a yearly event,” said Kansagra.
Booths and tables were set up to offer students food from all around the world, live music, games and a fashion show.
One of the most popular stops was the Indian Student Organization booth which offered free henna tattoos.
“Students appreciate the dance and fashion show, and the henna tattoos are super popular, people love it,” said Khyati Kansagra an international student from India and market coordinator in the Global Education office.
A cake competition booth offered free birthday cake slices to students. The different cakes represented different months and different countries, the most popular one, red velvet cake from El Salvador and the month of December.
Students who studied abroad spoke about their experiences in different countries with others and the opportunities offered on campus.
