Sasha Miller previously taught Public Health classes at CSUSM from 2018-2023. Miller decided to run for the Board of Supervisors to prioritize the wellbeing of all San Diegans without discrimination.
Miller’s priorities are affordable housing, justice for Palestine, fiscal responsibility, and immigration.
Miller believes in complete and total divestment from Israel. “None of our tax dollars should go to foreign entities to…commit genocide,” Miller says. Instead, Miller wants to use San Diegan tax dollars to benefitSan Diegans.
First, what is the SD Board of Supervisors?

This is the executive branch of San Diego County. San Diego County is split up into five districts for the board of supervisors, and District 5 encompasses parts of Escondido, Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, Camp Pendleton and other communities up north. Find out which district you live in at the City of San Diego’s website.
What do the San Diego Board of Supervisors decide?
This board is responsible for the allocation of funds that San Diego receives. Currently, over a third of the county’s 8.6 million budget for 2025-2026 goes to public safety (i.e. jails, police, first responders). However, Miller believes more money should be invested in public health because public health professionals deal with preventative care, and addressing the root of a problem, before it becomes a problem.
What are Sasha Miller’s plans?
One of Miller’s plans is to make public transportation free for riders 24 years and younger to reduce car dependence. In Miller’s vision, this plan will help young people financially by cutting the cost of maintaining a vehicle, and it will help the county environmentally by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
In order to do this, she would take the money used to expand highways and freeways.
Why is Miller running independent?
Miller believes politicians have lost sight of their job, which is to serve the public and represent their needs at the governmental level. Since she is a public health professional, she is devoted to helping her community no matter who they are. She wants the American working class to unite, instead of being divided by left-wing and right-wing politics.
Who else is running?
Two North County Republican mayors—Vista Mayor John Franklin and San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones. The current Republican Supervisor Jim Desmond is being termed out, and he is running for Congress in California’s 48th district. Democrat Norma Contreras is also running; she is a former chairwoman of the La Jolla Tribe and women’s health advocate. Chair of the San Diego County Democratic Party Kyle Kraher is announced his campaign as well.
When do we vote?
- Voting for the San Diego Board of Supervisors occurs during the Primary elections on June 2nd and during the general election on November 5th.
- On June 2nd, voters decide on the top two candidates, and vote again in the General to decide the new District 5 seat. It’s the same as the governor’s top 2 system, where voters decide on the top two during the primary election and decide finally during the general election.
