TOMS SHOES PROMOTES FOOTWEAR AWARENESS

LISSETTE NUNEZ
STAFF WRITER

On April 10, TOMS organization will host an awareness day to shed light on the millions of kids who are without shoes. The challenge is for participants to go one day without wearing shoes.

TOMS has been known to charitably contribute shoes to more than 30 countries in need. TOMS uses the motto “one for one,” TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need for every pair of TOMS that is purchased.

The TOMS challenge asks participants to walk barefoot throughout the entire day, in hope of giving people the incentive to ask why. With this, participants can then discuss TOMS’s contribution of footwear to children in need and facts regarding those who are exposed to harmful soil-transmitted diseases such as podoconiosis.

TOMS recognizes that some children are even being denied education, because in various areas children are required to wear shoes to attend school. Furthermore, TOMS will be granting prizes to participants who are in groups of 50 or more members. These groups can range from any type of organization like schools or businesses or even groups of family and friends. Winners will be randomly selected and prizes will remain unknown.
