McManus named chief of University Police Department

Robert McManus has been appointed as the new chief of police for the University Police Department, the university announced Oct. 31.
Since 2005, McManus has held the role of Police Lieutenant with UPD and since Aug. 2005, has served as Interim Chief of Police. Among many of his roles in the police field, McManus has spent 28 years in law enforcement. Of those 28 years, McManus has served University Police Departments for 26 years in universities including SDSU. Through the years, McManus has worked through ranks to eventually be promoted from Dispatch to Police Lieutenant.
In 1997, McManus worked with the Diplomatic Security Service of the U.S. State Department as a Special Agent, in which he administered executive protection of the Secretary of State as well as visiting Foreign Ministers and counter-terrorism investigations.
