Would you like to build your portfolio, get more involved in events on campus, learn valuable writing and editing skills and meet a great bunch of fellow students?

The Cougar Chronicle is seeking bright, outgoing students to work at the campus newspaper, which is available online and is distributed twice a month on campus in printed form.

Although writing positions are not paid, reporters with good deadline, writing and reporting skills can be promoted to paid editor positions after just one semester.

Writer can work on stories on their own time on subjects ranging from news to sports, opinion, features and arts and entertainment.

Wonder what it takes to become a reporter? We’re looking for students who are friendly, outgoing, intelligent, can work well under deadline pressure and have good writing skills. No journalism experience is necessary. Our faculty advisor and editors will teach you the rest.

To become involved, contact our editors on our “About Us” page for more information. The news staff meets every Tuesday during U-Hour (noon to 1 p.m.) in the Cougar Chronicle office, located in 3500 Craven Hall (to the right of the elevator, just off the plaza). Our first meeting will be on the first day of classes, at noon Jan. 22, 2013.

Come with your own story ideas, or pick one of the ones suggested by an editor.

We are also looking for students who have an interest in photography. Also, the Cougar Chronicle website is a great showcase for student-made videos. We get thousands of page views each day and are heavily plugged into social media platforms, so your video stories will get a lot of hits!

And if you’re interested in graphic or web design, we’re looking for students interested in web site development and to apprentice in page design, too!

Please join us at the Cougar Chronicle in Spring 2013!
