The women’s softball team fell short on the road in their last doubleheader of the season against Cal State San Bernardino with a 4-3 loss in game one of the series and 13-10 in game two.

In game one, the Cougars were losing 2-0 in the fifth inning, but by the top of the sixth, sophomore Lindsay Cerulle’s single drove in sophomore Sara Langdon, bringing the score to 2-1. Junior Holly Fauria got on base and later scored to tie up the game 2-2.

Cerulle scored off of senior Melyssa Bellamy’s sacrifice fly, giving the Cougars the lead 3-2. However, the Cougars’ lead did not last long due to the Coyotes’ back-to-back singles and an error made by the Cougars’ right fielder senior Robyn Alvara. CSUSB would later tie it up due to the error. After a sacrifice fly, the Coyotes took the lead 4-3.

The Cougars rallied at the top of the seventh when sophomore Karla Bernal singled and Holly Fauria moved Bernal to third base with two outs. The Cougars were unable to bring anyone across home plate and left two on base.

The Cougars’ Amanda Horbasch pitched for six innings, allowing eight hits, two runs and striking out three.

In game two of the series, the Cougars scored 10 runs, but were unable to stop the Coyotes from fighting back with 13 runs of their own.

Despite the series loss, senior Robyn Alvara ended the game 3-for-4 with a homerun and two RBIs. Bellamy also had a home run and two RBIs. Senior Brogan Hoenisch went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double.
