Fun ideas for Mother’s day

Rebecca Sykes, Sports Writer

The weather is warm and the flowers are blooming just in time for Mother’s Day. However, some people might not have any idea what to do for their mother on this special holiday.

Luckily, there are many options for people to choose from, especially activities that take place outdoors. From taking a stroll on the beach to grabbing brunch at a local restaurant, sunny San Diego is a perfect place to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Swami’s Beach, located in Encinitas, is an ideal destination to take your mom on a nice stroll alongside the ocean. A nice perk is that you can treat her to a yummy breakfast at Swami’s Cafe afterwards. This small, beachy cafe is known for their acai bowls, a non-dairy yogurt topped with an array of fruit. Swami’s Cafe is located at 1163 S Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas, CA 92024.

Another idea is to take your mom to the Carlsbad Flower Fields. Aside from the flowers being in full bloom, Mother’s Day will be the last day this season to visit the Carlsbad attraction. Located at 5704 Paseo Del Norte Carlsbad, CA 92008, the cost of entrance is $14 for adults at the gate. Tickets can also be purchased online.

If you and your mother want to stay local in San Marcos, Mama Kat’s is the perfect place for breakfast or lunch. With a menu filled with delicious breakfast and lunch options, this restaurant is the ideal location to celebrate your mother on her special day. I recommend treating your mother to the Strawberry Swirl French Toast with cream cheese frosting; it’s a fan favorite amongst frequent customers. The restaurant is located on 950 W San Marcos Blvd, San Marcos, CA 92078.

For those who aren’t looking for a heavy meal, consider taking your mom to get coffee or tea at Better Buzz Coffee located at 904 W San Marcos Blvd. It’s small, peaceful and an ideal place for relaxing.

Our mothers have spoiled us all our lives. It is time for us to spoil them right back.
