What else will The Simpsons get right?

Time travel? A crystal ball? The world may never know how sixteen years before Donald Trump was elected President, the laughable cartoon, The Simpsons, predicted the outcome of this election.

This idea was satirically concocted by Simpson creators in a March 19 episode labeled, “Bart To The Future” in 2000.

The episode features the character Bart, viewing a vision of his future life as his sister Lisa takes over the oval office after Trump, becoming the first female president ‒another possible predictor of our future.

In the episode, after her staff informs her that the country is broke. Lisa addresses them with, “As you know, we’ve inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump.” Whether or not this is another future predictor will have to wait to be seen. However, one is hopeful that this will not be the case.

Simpsons producer Dan Greaney, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter states,”The important thing is that Lisa comes into the presidency when America is on the ropes and that is the condition left by the Trump presidency. What we needed was for Lisa to have problems that were beyond her fixing, that everything went as bad as it possibly could and that’s why we had Trump be president before her.”

He also goes on to say that [the episode] “was a warning to America,” adding “ it just seemed like the logical last stop before hitting bottom. It was pitched because it was consistent with the vision of America going insane.”

As well as predicting a future President, The Simpsons also guessed the creation of the apple watch, the ipod and silly inventions such as hamburger earmuffs.

No matter your political beliefs, it’s interesting to see different Simpsons predictions come to life, and look to the future to see what else they might get right.
