On Nov. 17 CSUSM theatre offered a free showing of three out of the five plays directed by Jason Eberwein during U-hour in Arts 111. Short Short showcased three 10-minute plays that featured stirring and dramatic twists on productions by Craig Pospisil, Harold Pinter and Eva Anderson.

The first play, It’s Not You by Craig Pospisil, depicted the friendship of four women and how the ever-changing circumstances in life can affect the relationship they have towards one another. The scene is set on a subway in New York, where Natalie is upset by her friend’s decision to end their friendship with her. While they explained how friends drift apart through different stages in life, Natalie’s friends ultimately bring up the fact that they cannot keep a friendship with a person who is not willing to go out of their way to experience new things.

The second play, New World Order by Harold Pinter, portrayed a dramatic interrogation scene that questioned the extent of people’s perceived ideas to society. The scene brings upon a dystopian world where linguistic discussion is argued in order to keep a clean and pure democracy.

The final play, From the Mouth of Babes, is a comedic take on a notorious troublemaker named Davey, who desires to take revenge from his teacher. The scene takes place in a Daycare center where Davey is put in time-out. With his devious attitude, Davey imposes psychological games to his playmates, Eli and Kimberley in order to sabotage his teacher,

Jason Eberwein, the director of the production, built the foundation of the scenes in an effort to provide raw action that would draw the attention of the audience.

“The play needs to have its beginning, build, crescendo and denouement,” said Eberwein. “And it all needs to happen within a short time frame. I hope we have accomplished this and more.”
