Red Bull BMX Athlete Terry Adams came to spin on campus yet again Sept. 26.
This year, he looked as though he was a typical student on campus until he started to do his signature Flatland riding on his bike, impressing all the students who were within the area. Adams’ signature BMX move is the Katrina, which he performed at the top of the Cesar Chavez stairs, the benches overlooking Library Plaza, Palm Court, the Markstein smoking area outside and the landing below Founder’s Plaza.
“It’s awesome giving something different to the students,” Adams said. “I’ve been traveling a lot, and still acquiring more sponsors. I love the weather and the people out here, many of my sponsors are out here as well.”
During his previous appearance on campus last semester, he gave CSUSM students a demo during U-Hour and showed students some of his “cool” moves, such as the “Katrina” that he created in honor of the people who suffered from the 2005 Gulf of Mexico hurricane “Katrina.”
Terry Adams won the Gold medal at the 2005 Asian X Games and was awarded NORA Cup awards for Flatland Rider of the Year also in 2005 and again in 2008. He has also been on popular TV shows such as “Glee” and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” He continues to show off his tricks in competitions around the world.
“[Flatland has changed my life] in pretty much every way, shape, and form,” Adams said. “It’s always something you can kind of turn to if something bad happens. If your girlfriend breaks up with you, or lose something, Flatland is always there. I don’t see an end to it for me.”
